My Rating:

Psychic Clyde Fortune and her zany family are back in the fourth in the national bestselling series from the author of A Fright to the Death.

Former cop and novice psychic Clyde Fortune finds herself in a race for justice when a Zombie Fun Run turns deadly...

All of Crystal Haven, Michigan, is psyching up to participate in a Zombie Fun Run organized by Clyde’s nephew Seth, but Clyde is fretful about the undead festivities. For one thing, her sister, Grace, has unexpectedly returned to town after fifteen years. For another, Clyde has the nagging feeling that something is about to go wrong...

When one of the zombie runners is found murdered and then Grace disappears, Clyde realizes her grim premonition is dead-on. Now, she and her police detective boyfriend Mac must find a ghoulish murderer before someone points the finger at Grace. And when a tangled web of family secrets and old grudges combines with a mysterious case of stolen diamonds, even someone as quick-witted as Clyde might not be able to outrun a killer...

Book Quotes

“One of the zombies has been hurt in the woods,” I said.
“Oh my,” Mom said. “Who is it?”
“It’s hard to tell with all the makeup,” I said.
Mom held her hand to her mouth and her eyes grew huge. “Is it a dead zombie?”
“I think that’s redundant,” Vi said.
Mom and I both glared at her.

I flapped my hand at her, recognized that it was her gesture, and pulled my hand back. It’s bad enough when I think I’m becoming my mother, but if I think I’m becoming my aunt, I won’t be able to live with myself.

My Thoughts

Another fun and quirky cozy in the Family Fortune Mystery series!!

Grab a cup of tea, your coziest throw and snuggle up on the couch for a great read.

Dawn Eastman scores again as we dive right back into the lives of the Fortune family in Crystal Haven. It took no time at all for me to be totally captivated by the antics of Clyde’s family, the nuances of her evolving relationship with Mac, and the new mystery which hits a bit close to home in this volume of the series.

I love all of the paranormal aspects of the book. We have quite the town here and we had the opportunity to learn a little more about it’s history, paranormal and otherwise, in An Unhappy Medium. I love books that can incorporate paranormal elements in ways that feel real and logical. I want to be able to believe and Eastman excels at this.

Eastman does a great job of distracting us with quite a few mysteries all occurring around the same time. Do they all tie together? And if so how? And how involved is her sister Grace? Eastman also manages to touch upon some more serious issues which add an unexpected depth to the read.

Bottom line

Don’t hesitate to pick up An Unhappy Medium (A Family Fortune Mystery #4) by Dawn Eastman. I loved every minute and can’t wait for my next visit to Crystal Haven!

About Dawn Eastman

When I was ten years old, my two favorite things were climbing trees and reading. As a bonus, I discovered if I combined the two, I could hide from my mother when she wanted me to clean my room. Nancy Drew and I spent many afternoons solving crimes and avoiding chores. Eventually, I moved on to Hercule Poirot, Sherlock Holmes, and Stephanie Plum. I improved my housework-dodging ploys.

After many years in Michigan, I now live in Iowa with my husband, son and daughter. When I’m not writing or chauffeuring kids, I keep busy catering to the whims of a bossy bichon-shih tzu mix who wants to rule the world.

  2. Sharon Braswell

Family secrets, stolen diamonds, zombie fun run, a psychic heroine named Clyde and a murder mystery!! Sounds awesome and is on my tbr list!

  3. Kathleen Costa

I am new to the series, but very intrigued by a ‘psychic’ being the protagonist. Quirky families and unique situations are my favorite ‘cozy’ components. Thanks!

  4. The artwork is amazing and follows from the first one to this in telling the story also. I’d love to add this newest book to my home library where it will join the previous two books from the series.
