First Line:  “I was a bystander to this story. I didn’t want to get involved. I watched from the sidelines. I saw. Can you keep a secret?”

Summary (from GoodReads):

Summertime for Blair Reynolds and her friends had always been carefree and fun… until the summer they happened upon something that was not human. As they band together in a fight for their lives, Blair’s true love becomes something more than human. Something unnatural. And their survival depends entirely upon their ability to keep a secret.

My Thoughts:

This book was the perfect summer read.  I loved that the story was not “just” another paranormal YA as I had expected…this was surprisingly science fiction and surprisingly different.   The pacing of the novel was good, and although I felt like there were a lot of scenes where there was too much conversation and not enough action, I still had no trouble rushing through the book to the conclusion.  A conclusion which leaves one wondering and guessing and waiting for book 2.

The group dynamic among the friends was wonderful…I loved how they were all so different yet were all completely committed to each other and the group as a whole.  I wish that we could have gotten to know the characters all a bit better in the beginning of the novel…certain things, like the romance, seemed a bit more rushed than they should have been…especially considering the pacing of the rest of the story.

Overall this was a pretty unique and entertaining read and I’ll definitely be picking up the second in the series, Firefly, when it comes out.

Was it worth my Time?
