My Rating:

The mystery of the island deepens as members of the Robinson family disappear and strange animals are discovered.

Sarah Robinson and her family are shipwrecked on a remote and mysterious island. Their food is running out, and their fear is escalating–there is no sign of rescue. The mysterious girl they found unconscious at the beach is healing, and what she tells them about the strange island and especially about someone called the Keeper has the family on edge. When Sarah’s dad and Marco’s younger brother go missing, the mystery becomes dangerous. Now, it’s a matter of life and death. Now, the family is truly lost.

My Thoughts

I don’t read a lot of Middle Grade but S.A. Bodeen is on my auto buy list and Lost is a perfect example of why. I don’t believe that all children’s fiction necessarily appeals to all adults nor should it…but there are a few authors that somehow manage to write in such a way that those boundaries are easily crossed. S.A. Bodeen is one such writer.

Sarah and her step brother Marco take turns telling the story in Lost, the second in S.A. Bodeen’s Shipwreck Island series. We start off right where we left off after Shipwreck Island – so I definitely recommend reading that book first or you really will not enjoy this one as much as you should.

The more Sarah and Marco explore the island, the more mysteries and questions are unearthed. Strange and unusual occurrences…strange animals that shouldn’t exist…Lost has it all. Add in a blended family trying to get to know each other under these stressful circumstances and you have the ingredients for a great read.

I am devouring the Shipwreck Island series and can’t wait for the next installment. I encourage even those hesitant to pick up Middle Grade to give this series a shot.
