NetGalley November: Goals & Updates

Posted November 3, 2014 by Melissa in Event recap | 11 Comments

From the host K-Books’ Site:

The Origin of Netgalley November:

Netgalley November was created last year after discussing with a few other bloggers and reviewers that we had way too many Netgalley books to read. If you are a Blogger/Reviewer I’m sure you’re familiar with Netgalley and Edelweiss… two wonderful sites where publishers can allow us access to e-book editions of ARCs for review.

Last year Netgalley November was hosted by myself, Laura @ Bookish Treasures and Faye @ A Daydreamer’s Thoughts. This year it’s just me.

So what do you need to do?

This is completely a personal challenge so if you want to join in with Netgalley November just sign-up below.
On the first of November, write a blog post/twitter or Facebook status saying you are joining #NetgalleyNovember and how many books you plan to do and then keep us updated on how many you manage to read.

Challenge Categories:

Easy: 1-4
Medium: 5-10
Hard: 11-15
Difficult: 16-20
Netgalley Superstar: 21+

Watch out…dirty laundry is about to be aired!  I’m hoping mortification will keep me honest !! Click away now if you don’t want to be scarred by my huge list of unreviewed books!

I’ve been really good the past few years about limiting the number of NetGalley requests that I make and prioritizing those reviews. Unfortunately my average is pretty bad (70%) due to the fact that when I first started blogging end of 2011/early 2012 I requested way too many books and never had the time to read and review some of them.  Since I am also participating in Blog Ahead this month I think it is the perfect time to catch up on writing reviews for ARCs I’ve finished as well as tackling these lingering NetGalley reviews.  Sadly all of these were released years ago…but late publicity is better than none, right?

PS. I don’t think it is fair that Widgets for review books that I never requested nor accessed are counted against my ratio…but I guess that just gives me more incentive to get the ones I did request reviewed.

I’m shooting for 5 books read in November and all 5 reviews written and posted in November or Scheduled for December. (As well as a DNF post for After the Snow)

  1. Ha Ha. I know my list is worse and longer, I would totally be on board with the challenge but I am in the middle of a horrible reading slump and I have had to set aside some review books and pick up a couple that I want to read as my last two reads were request books from Edelweiss and absolutely dismal. Good luck! Maybe I will be brave and do it in the new year.

I was like that last month…barely read anything! I hope you find a way out of the slump with some “pleasure” reading!

Thanks so much for the tip on that one. Definitely my first read once I clear out 5 of these old ones! And yes…I told you it was very dirty laundry-I went crazy when I first started blogging. I never imagined they would all get approved.

  2. “PS. I don’t think it is fair that Widgets for review books that I never requested nor accessed are counted against my ratio…” – Oh, that annoys me too, so very very much. We’re penalied for books we don’t want and didn’t ask for. Grr.

That’s….quite a list. I have a lot of older ARCs too but for this, I’m focusing on newer books, a year or less old. I really need several months devoted to NG. 😛

Every Other Day was really good; I vote you start with that one.

    Good luck!!!

I’m caught up with all of my new NetGalley titles (except for First Frost which I got today). I just have this monster list from my 1st 6 months blogging that I need to tackle!

Every Other Day does sound good…I think I will start there!

Yeah…I guess I was like a kid in a candy store my first 6 months blogging. I never imagined they’d let me have it all and then once I had the books I just got overwhelmed. Never even downloaded most of them.

  3. EEEEEEEKKK!!!!! That’s actually pretty fantastic that with that many books, you’re % is 70%!!!! But…

    EEEEEEEEEEKKKK *runs flailing in circles*

I’m so kidding!!! My Edelweiss looks like your NG… That’s why I’m teasing you so mercilessly 😉 I say start at the top (newest) or else you’ll be bored? I have no clue!!!

    Good luck friend!!!!

I was horrified when I saw how many I had not reviewed from when I 1st started blogging 🙁 I’ve been pretty good the past few years hence managing to be at 70% despite all of these!
