I love reading and reviewing a wide variety of books….I’d be honored if you would like me to review a book, host a contest, do an author interview, or feature a guest post to help promote your book. I would also be open to reviewing book/reading related products!
Please email me at melissaseclecticbookshelf [at] gmail [dot] com to submit requests.
All inquiries will be read and replied to within 7 days of submission.
Genres I favor:
Cozy Mysteries, Contemporary Fiction, Chick lit, Historical Fiction, Fantasy, Young Adult, Speculative fiction, Science fiction, Mystery, Thriller, Realistic fiction, Action & Adventure, and Romance.
Magical Realism and books featuring witches or witchcraft/magic are my favorites. Please look at the My Reads Page to get an even better idea of what I typically read.
Genres I don’t read:
Self-help, Religious fiction, Military fiction, Sports fiction, Memoirs, Westerns, Horror, and Erotica.
I accept ARCs, Galleys, newly released and backlist titles for review. I accept ebooks as well as audiobooks. I may review books in the middle of a series, but in order to provide an accurate review, I may request that you send the previous titles if I have not read them and do not own them. I will review each title sent separately.
Newly released and backlist titles sent for review are generally reviewed within 2-4 months of arrival. ARCs and Galleys will be reviewed as close to their release dates as possible, usually within a two week window before and after pub date. Review posting can be timed to coincide with blog tours or other promotions if arrangements have been made in advance.
Other promotional options:
Guest blogging, author interviews and giveaways (books, swag, etc.) are available. In this case, book reviews will be scheduled to coincide with promotional posts. See Guidelines below.
All reviews will include a Photo of the cover, Book details (including: Title, Series, Author, Reading level, Genre, Size, Publisher, Release Date, Goodreads link & Source), Synopsis from book jacket, Amazon, or Goodreads, My thoughts, and My Rating. I may also include a favorite quote or two and purchase links to Amazon, Barnes & Noble, & The Book Depository.
All reviews will be posted on this blog and the link emailed or tweeted to the author/publisher. The post will then be publicized via Facebook, Twitter, Google +, Pinterest & Tumblr. I also cross-post all my reviews on Goodreads & Amazon. They may also be posted to Barnes & Noble, NetGalley, Smashwords, Book Sneeze, etc. if requested.
I am not a professional critic but rather a book lover and blogger and I post my thoughts, opinions, and feelings about a book. I do not receive any monetary compensation for my reviews and all of my reviews will be an honest and fair reflection of my opinions. I can not guarantee a positive review but I can guarantee that any reviews I write are thoughtful and respectful. I will typically give a book 100 pages and if I dislike it or am having trouble finishing it, I may stop reading it. If I feel like I can offer a solid opinion on what I liked and disliked and why I couldn’t finish, I may still post my thoughts on the book while acknowledging that I did not finish the book. I do not 100% guarantee if or when a book I receive will be reviewed. I love helping to promote books and sharing my love of reading but this blog is a hobby and I have a multitude of other work and family related commitments which may at times take priority. I also can not be held responsible for books that may be lost or damaged in the mail. Books and ARCs that are sent to me for review will not be returned or sold. I will keep them for my personal collection, trade them with other reviewers or give them away. If you do not wish a book or ARC to be traded to another reviewer, donated or included in a giveaway be sure to let me know in advance.
-Author Guest Posts
-Promotional Posts (incl. Blurbs, Excerpts, & Book Trailers )
-Virtual Book Tours
-Giveaways (can be combined with any other post)
Posts should be related to books, reading and/or writing. Extra “points” for posts that include cats, Celtic, or Witchy themes. Some general suggested topics include: How to balance a day job with writing, how to get your book published, what inspired your book, where researching your book led you, how you kept your dream alive, marketing your book (& where book bloggers fall in the process), utilizing social media for publicity, connecting with your readers, your writing process, etc.
Please keep in mind that although my blog is not necessarily PG-13, I do try to maintain a family friendly environment so your post content should reflect that. Guest Posts should also contain original content. If pictures are included, I expect the author to have permission to use such photos and/or provide proper credit.
Please explain your answers. Offering up a one or two word response will not satisfy my readers- We all want to know more about you and your work 🙂 Also feel free to include pictures as long as you have permission to use them and/or have provided proper credit. I try to provide thoughtful and fun questions that pertain to you and your book. Feel free to include any parting thoughts at the end of the interview!
I’d love for you to also include the following info with your post. I prefer that this info not be included in the guest post or interview but rather follow with the book and author info. I’ll try to fit as much of it into the post as I can. I do not guarantee that all the content, pictures, links you provide will be included.
-Author Social Media Links (Facebook, Twitter, Website, Blog etc)
-Book Cover Image
-Book Links- (Goodreads, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords, etc.)
Guest posts should be between 300-800 words in length, give or take. Book excerpts should be 400 words in length or less. I have found that posts longer than this are not fully read.
Post dates will be scheduled in advance for a mutually advantageous date. All materials should be emailed to me one week in advance of post date so that I have time to prepare and schedule the post. If the post is not in my mailbox within 48 hours of the scheduled date, your post may be dropped from the schedule.
If you are offering up a giveaway, please make it clear if the giveaway is open to US only, US/Canada, International, etc. Please also make clear whether the giveaway is for a physical copy, e-copy or other swag. If you have a specific time frame you need for a contest, please let me know. I typically run giveaways for 2 weeks. Entries are collected via Rafflecopter forms and winners are selected randomly. The winner’s information will be emailed to you for prize distribution. I’d love for the initial entry to be a question that you have provided for my readers. I do also require a follow for my blog for contests run on my site. The option for extra entries will be given for following the author on twitter and liking their (or the book’s) Facebook page, provided you give me the links. There will also be additional options for following me on other sites.
Posts will be advertised on Twitter, Facebook, Google + & Tumblr and Google followers/RSS subscribers will be notified of the post as well. Remember that the goal is to try to get readers to interact. Don’t be afraid to ask a question, or encourage readers to comment. On the day of your event, stop by and respond to comments. Participation is encouraged.
1. Entrants must be over 13 years of age to enter unless otherwise indicated
2. All contests are for the US only unless otherwise stated (No PO boxes please)
3. I reserve the right to end or extend a contest without advanced notice
4. I reserve the right to disqualify any entry as I see fit
5. Winners will be selected randomly using random. org or rafflecopter
6. Winners will be contacted by email
7. Winners must respond within 48 hours to claim prize and provide a shipping address. I will then mail/email the item or provide the address/email to the author/publisher
8. I can not responsible for lost or damaged prizes or for promotional items that have not been mailed by the author/publisher
9. As I live with a cat who loves books as much as I do, I can not guarantee that an errant cat hair or two may not sneak into your package. If you are allergic to cats please keep this in mind and enter at your own risk!
10. I do not make special posts on my blog announcing giveaway winners. The winners are individually emailed and once they have replied to accept the prize, the winner is announced on the rafflecopter form on original the giveaway post.
I value your privacy. Any information collected for giveaways or contests will not be sold, traded or used in anyway other than for the purposes specified in the giveaway. All information is deleted once a winner is chosen and confirmed. Please be careful if you leave your personal information in the comments. This is a public blog and anyone will be able to view it.
Many of the books reviewed on this site were bought by me or borrowed from the library. I list the source of all books on every review. Any book that I received from a publisher, publicist or author will be listed as such in the review post. I do not receive any monetary compensation for reviews and all reviews reflect my honest and fair opinion regardless of the copy source.
Also I am affiliated with Amazon Associates, Barnes and Noble & The Book Depository. All proceeds will go to book giveaways!! If you purchase something through one of my links I will receive a small payment (cents per purchase). This will in no way affect the cost or service you receive!
