My Rating:
Twenty-four-year-old truck stop waitress and single mother Catherine Wright has simple goals: to give her five-year-old daughter a happy life and to never again be the talk of the town in Balsam, Pennsylvania (population three thousand outside of tourist season).
And then one foggy night, on a lonely road back from another failed date, Catherine saves a man’s life. It isn’t until after the police have arrived that Catherine realizes exactly who it is she has rescued: Brett Madden, hockey icon and media darling.
Catherine has already had her fifteen minutes of fame and the last thing she wants is to have her past dragged back into the spotlight, only this time on a national stage. So she hides her identity. It works. For a time.
But when she finds the man she saved standing on her doorstep, desperate to thank her, all that changes. There’s an immediate connection, and it’s more electric than the bond of two people who endured a traumatic event. It’s something neither of them expected. Something that Catherine isn’t sure she can handle; something she is afraid to trust.
Because how long can an extraordinary man like Brett be interested in an ordinary woman like Catherine...before the spark fades?
Book Quotes
“I’m crazy about you and you won’t even answer my calls. I need to know how to fix that so you’ll give me a chance. Please.”
“Life is too short to do what other people think you should do.”
My Thoughts
I ended up staying awake way past my normal bed time to finish the Until It Fades. And Until It Fades left me with a warm heart and a smile on my face as I went to sleep….sure to have pleasant dreams.
I have to admit that I was surprised going into this to see that it was quite unlike K.A.Tucker’s previous works. And at first I was a little worried… it appeared to be a simple Cinderella story with a predictable ending to the usual trope. I was especially worried since if there was going to be a trope, I’m much more partial to the friends to lovers trope and must admit that I was rooting for Keith in the beginning.
Tucker (and Brett) completely won me over though with this incredibly sweet and charming story about love and family and forgiveness and having the strength the put the past in the past and grab hold of what you want.
Some things that actually surprised me about Until It Fades (And that I didn’t realize until I finished the read!):
- It is kind of a Sports Romance. And I don’t read Sports Romance! LOL But this was pretty light on that aspect so don’t let that scare you away!
- It left me thinking that it is Ok to let someone take care of you. I’m pretty independent…but in this case it just worked…and made me wonder if maybe I am too independent…hmmm…
- I just really wanted my Happily Ever After with this one and I shamelessly didn’t care! Tucker so delivered! ♥
It’s rare for a retelling to surprise. Glad you liked it.
This isn’t actually a retelling…I was just alluding to the fact that it appeared to have a Cinderella type theme 🙂
K.A. Tucker was my introduction to New Adult books and to this day she remains a favorite author of mine. I absolutely love all of her books I’ve read so far – and re-read multiple times – but haven’t gotten the chance to buy and read this newest book yet, but I’m soooo excited to read this book! Awesome review! And awesome you get to do a giveaway with this book <3
Hope you love this one as much as her other books!!!

It really is different but every bit as good as her other works!
I have this scheduled for reading this weekend and I can’t wait. I am looking forward to a nice Cinderella type romance, and I already like the sound of Tucker.

I love the cover and your review, and I’ve seen other bloggers give it a big thumbs-up too! I’m fussy about my romance reads, but this one sounds realistic with an interesting plot… and I do like hockey, so that doesn’t scare me off 🙂 Thanks!

Tucker really pulled another one off:)
It was very different from Tucker’s usual books, but it was still very good, I totally agree with you. And I rooted for Keith in the beginning, too 🙂
