 Notes from Melissa

We had our first snow of the season last night…just a dusting but a clear reminder that Winter is on it’s way.

I hope those of you celebrating Thanksgiving this week are all ready. I am not! As you read this I will probably be frantically cleaning my house and grocery shopping so that I won’t have to worry about it after work this week. We are expecting 20 people here on Thursday!

If you are in the US, what are your Thanksgiving plans?

My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories by Stephanie Perkins, Holly Black , Ally Carter, Matt de la Pena, Gayle Forman, Jenny Han, David Levithan, Kelly Link , Myra McEntire, Rainbow Rowell, Laini Taylor, & Kiersten White

What I Am Reading Today

Christmas Kiss – L.L. Muir
Divine Evil by Nora Roberts (Audiobook)

 What I’m Watching

🎥  Pete’s Dragon – This movie was really well done! A note though…if you are overly sensitive like I am…don’t watch this if you are at all down. I bawled like a baby for a good half an hour after the movie thinking about all the harm that we humans do to the earth, the animals and each other.

🎥  Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them  – I quite enjoyed this! My advice would be not to go into it expecting Harry Potter. If you do…you will be disappointed. This movie is very different but obviously of the same world and beautiful in it’s own right. I loved Newt ♥

  1. My family had our Thanksgiving last weekend but I’m still going to my parents’ for a small Thanksgiving on Thursday. Good luck with the cleaning and prep and hope you have a great time with your family.

I haven’t read that Liane Moriarty book yet but I loved My True Love Gave to Me. A nice way to get in the holiday mood.

I liked Fantastic Beasts too. I thought it was a good idea to include a Muggle and I hope he’ll be back. Eddie Redmayne did a great job as Newt. I also thought Colin Farrell was good as Graves. I wasn’t sure what to expect from him. Ezra Miller was really creepy and reminded me of Kylo Ren from Star Wars VII. I am definitely looking forward to the sequel where hopefully we’ll find out more about Grindelwald.

  2. Whoa, 20 for Thanksgiving. Hopefully it will go off like a charm for you. 🙂 I’m doing shopping today, but I’m not hosting so I just have to do regular chores.

I saw Fantastic Beasts… and loved Newt, too. 🙂

    Happy Thanksgiving, Melissa!

  3. Yay for the first snow! We don’t get any snow, thank goodness, but I will enjoy the pictures from friends. I am also not ready for Thanksgiving but luckily it’s just me and my husband so I don’t have to clean much! 😉 Enjoy all your new books and have a great week!

  4. Twenty people! That’s crazy! I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Melissa. It sounds like it will be hectic, but I am sure it will also be a lot of fun. Ours will be a quiet one, with just the three of us and the cats. I’m not up for entertaining this year or being entertained. I do have to clean the house though–and will be using my time off to get that done.

I agree with your about Pete’s Dragon. Great movie with a strong message about protecting the environment. I cried at the end too. I really want to see Fantastic Beasts. I’m not sure anyone else in the house does though. My daughter was excited about it for awhile, but now not so much. I may have to make time to see it on my own in a couple weeks.

Take care and enjoy your week!

  5. I can’t believe it is already Thanksgiving! We ended up getting a light dusting last night too and totally unexpected we were just expecting a little rain! We are going to my husbands parents house for Thanksgiving so it shouldn’t be to bad. I can’t believe you are cooking for 20 people Good Luck and my motto when we have that many people over is just do some basic cleaning because for some reason once everyone leaves my house feels destroyed and I have to clean again!! Have a great week!!

  6. I will be going to see Fantastic Beasts in the next few days. I also got My Not So Perfect Life from NetGalley this week, but it will be a while before I get down to reading it. It looks really good and I like Sophie Kinsella’s other books, so I have high hopes for it. Have a good Thanksgiving and remember to ask others for help. I am doing that this year, assigning different dishes to different kids to do. I don’t want to spend the entire week cooking for everyone and not have time to read.

  7. 20 people? Wow that’s a party. 🙂 Good luck with everything and hope your Thanksgiving is great. I am looking forward to all the food and then sitting around and watching movies lol… and the long weekend doesn’t hurt either! You know, we got snow last night- a light dusting but it was cold and sleet and super windy. definitely felt like winter!

I sooo want to read Dark Matter, that one’s on my list now. Glad to see you liked it! And I hope to see Fantastic Beasts soon!

  8. I am not ready for Thanksgiving at all. We host it every year. Grocery shopping is done, but the house is a mess and I am flat out for appointments tomorrow. Will have to be cleaning like crazy Tuesday and Wednesday.
Love all the seasonal titles out right now. Hope to get to a few before the end of December.
My Not So Perfect Life looks good. Hope you enjoy it.

  9. And to think we’ve been whining because we’ve had a couple of cold mornings. It’ll just be the three of us for Thanksgiving. I’ll be working so Carl will cook. Have a Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your new books!

  10. I have been wanting to read My True Love Gave to Me – hopefully next month…it seems like the perfect read for December. I am definitely interested in Kinsella’s latest novel. I hope you enjoy it and all of your new books!
