Sunday Post – July Heat

Posted July 10, 2016 by Melissa in Added to the Bookshelf | 46 Comments

Bookshelves - 2014(Inspired by Mailbox Monday, IMM, Clock Rewinders and the like, this is my weekly update post which includes notes about my week, recent posts, what I’ve been reading and watching and what books and bookish goodies have been added to my shelves!)

 Melissa’s Notes

Another week gone by…where does the time go?!  Summer is in full swing and we’ve gone from 90’s and sweltering to 80’s and muggy. Why do my memories of summers past always seem better? Guess there is a reason that summer isn’t my favorite season! LOL

FYI – I am running a giveaway on Instagram for 2 gorgeous Puffin Classics. While greedily starting my collection, I accidentally bought a few duplicates so I figured I’d give them away! Go Enter 🙂

Lastly, I noticed that a lot of people talk about television, movies, music etc…so I decided to add a “What I’m Watching” section. Not sure if I’ll keep it!

 Recently on Melissa’s Eclectic Bookshelf

What I Read Last  Week

Please Don’t Tell – Elizabeth Adler (Audiobook)
Deadline (Newsflesh #2) – Mira Grant

What I Am Reading Today

Pretty Baby – Mary Kubica (Audiobook)
Midsummer Night’s Mischief – Jennifer David Hesse

 What I’m Watching

📺 When Calls the Heart – Catching up on Season 3. I discovered this show about a few months ago and have been addicted ever since. It definitely changed quite a bit come season 2 but I’m still enjoying it.
📺 Outlander – Holding out before watching the season finale. I just don’t want it to end and I’ve heard its really emotional. Maybe this week 😉
📺 Jeopardy – Also big plans to finally catch up (we are about 32 episodes behind) now that summer is here.

♥ Signed Copies of all 4 Bakeshop Mysteries, Cupcake tea towel & pot holder, Love cake topper, Bakeshop page flags, Assortment of gourmet lemonade and Triple Chocolate Chunk cookie mix (7/20/16)

I recently started picking up some of the Puffin Classics to add to my shelves. I kept seeing them pop up in Instagram feeds and just couldn’t resist. So last year I started picking them up one or so at a time and I just am in love with how gorgeous they are! I want them all now! LOL

  1. Squeel!! It’s time for Jeopardy, it’s time for Jeopardy!!! I actually watch this with my family!! I thought I was the only geek (sorry) who did this. We don’t catch them all but of course it’s fun to shout out the answers. I’m only good for the first round, anyways.

And I don’t really watch any other tv besides sports and cartoons… Bookstagrams looking beautiful this week!!!

I love Jeopardy…we DVR it! LOL So you are definitely not the only geek! Look up geek in the dictionary and there I am!

Thanks for the comment about my instagram…I’ve been trying..not sure how long I’ll keep it up! lol

  2. Ugh, I long for the 80s! This is my first summer living in Florida and the heat index over the weekend has been 102! The plan is to just stay inside… I hope you love the Outlander finale! I haven’t watched past episode three! I’ve been waiting for the season to end so I could binge it all at once! 😛 Have a great week! 😀

  3. Those Puffin classics are so pretty! I just want to binge buy them. We had a few days that were low humidity and they were so nice. Of course now we’re back up to our usual high humidity and temperature in the 90s. My hair is about 3 times it’s usual size! I want to start watching Outlander. I haven’t actually read the books but I want to see if I like the story before I make the commitment to read those chunksters. Pretty Baby looks really good! Have ag reat week!

  4. I’m with you, my memories of summer from childhood are pretty good and yeah it was warm but I don’t remember hating the heat like I do now lol. Maybe a as kid you don’t notice…

Nice review of The Passenger. I kinda felt the same, it was okay but didn’t love it.

    The Puffin classics look nice!

  5. It’s been between 100 and 108 here most days. I’m just glad it’s not 115F like July and Sept. usually get most years. I hate the summertime. Bring back the 50’s and I’ll be fine. lol

I watch some shows but it’s mostly shows like Supernatural, Lucifer, Dark Matter, Killjoys, Originals and The Vampire Diaries.

Looks like you got a bunch of great reads.

  6. We’re averaging 100+ with the humidity and heat index. So glad to come home and jump in the pool. Even though it has heated up to about 90 degrees, it’s still refreshing. Lovely displays of your new reads.

Thanks Grace…and yeah…we have the same weather…you’re just a town over I think , so you know what I am talking about.

  7. It’s been in the high 90’s here and it’s horrible, especially after it rains and the humidity is really high. Ugh. I feel the same way about my childhood summers. I remember the afternoons and nights being cool enough to play outside. None of this sweltering puddle of sweat stuff.
I’ve been putting off Outlander for forever because I haven’t read the books yet. I really need to get on that. I know so many people that love it.
Have a great week and enjoy your books!

I managed to read the 1st book before watching season 1 but never got to book 2 and decided to watch anyway. I don’t know if I’ll go back and read it. I liked the 1st book but to be honest wasn’t as wowed as everyone else seems to be.

  8. I’ve been meaning to watch When Calls the Heart. I LOVE Jeopardy and DVR it. Usually I have time to fast-forward to final Jeopardy, ha. Too many books to read instead of watch tv I guess. I read Outlander but haven’t had a chance to watch. I will someday 🙂

I hope you get to When Calls the Heart! The 1st two seasons are on Netflix. I was really looking for something sweet to offset all the horror and drama (both on television – during the season I was watching Castle, Person of Interest, etc -and in real life these days). The last show that I fell in love with like this one was Hart of Dixie. OK, I watch to much television! lol

  9. Those Puffin classics are so pretty! I wish I had space for a bookshelf so I can collect more hard copies. The Outlander finales was really good and I like how they presented it. Now we have the long wait until next year to see more. I hope you have a great week with your books and shows.

  10. I have to admit Melissa I often think of my childhood and am sure it was never as hot as it is now. And then sometimes I learn it was and wonder how I coped back then without airconditioning etc…

Perhaps I’m getting fussier the older I get! 🙂

  11. I loved The Passenger and Pretty Baby.

I don’t remember my childhood summers being this hot, either…and we didn’t even have AC! We used to run through the sprinklers…lol.

We are probably just unable to cope as well as adults.

Thanks for visiting my blog….and I love your look here. You did something new, right?

It has been pretty good…though not as good as last season. I can’t compare to the books as I’ve only read the 1st!

  12. Ha ha! I was just thinking that summer was much better when I was a kid! I’m glad to know I’m not the only who feels that way. These days, the best thing about summer is that it means fall is coming soon!

  13. Summer isn’t my favorite season either, I prefer spring or autumn. I don’t like it when it’s too warm and muggy. Oh I like your idea of adding a what am I watching section. Those Puffin classics sure look pretty lined up on your shelf like that, great picture! I hope you’re having a great week!

  14. I’m with you… summer is definitely not my favorite season. I become a total hermit to avoid the heat. 🙂 Those Puffin editions are so pretty, aren’t they? I attempted to read Please Don’t Tell by Adler a couple years ago and it was one of the very few books I ever DNF’d. =/ I hope the audio version was much better and that you enjoyed it!

Ugh. Yes. We’ve been hot here too! The mugginess is terrible. I think that’s worse than the heat. Love the photos of the books! Hope you have a great week!
